Award-winning Project

The Snyder Center for Aphasia Life Enhancement (SCALE)

Baltimore

Overview:

The tenant fit-out of the second floor transformed the 4,226 sf space into a center for trained professionals to provide support and guidance for people with aphasia.

This new facility was designed by an architect with aphasia. The custom designed space includes a large classroom that serves as a technology lab, counseling rooms, offices and a greenhouse on the south side of the building. While the tenant space was being renovated, ARM installed new second-floor windows, and built a new lobby and a storefront entrance with a canopy. We also installed a new traction machine room-less elevator that services the lower level, and first and second floors from the north side of the building.

As part of this renovation the existing 50-year old boiler / chiller system which served the lower level and second floor was removed. This system was replaced with roof top units to serve the second floor and a split system for the lower level.

The lower level tenant is a recording studio which remained in operation throughout the construction process. A.R. Marani, Inc. scheduled work around the recording operations so that the impact on their business was minimized. There were also two other tenants in the building that had to remain in operation.
