John Hopkins University Athletic Center, Natatorium Bulkhead Removal

Baltimore

Overview:

The existing pool at Johns Hopkins University Athletic Center was originally constructed with a bulkhead that separated the deep end / diving area from shallow end / swimming lanes. This bulkhead consisted of concrete and masonry that was approximately two feet wide, eight feet tall and spanned the width of the pool. A.R. Marani was selected to remove the bulkhead as well as the tile surrounding the Natatorium.

The bulkhead was removed, and new tile was installed. The tile that was previously installed was no longer manufactured. Similar tile was located by ordering multiple samples and matching them to the existing tile. ARM installed a moveable bulkhead so that the JHU swim and diving teams could both utilize the pool for meets.
